Our matrix

Along with the Musical, on Friday we had the exhibition day. We had a combined class, where we chosen our Common Central Idea. Next, we continued with framing our Learner Profile Attributes, Attitudes, Skills, Related Concepts, Science and Social Strands and lines of inquiry. We divided the related concepts and connected it to the concepts. Based on this, we formed our lines of inquiry. After that, we saw a really inspirational music video called 'If Everyone Cared'. It was about how a small step which can  bring about a great change. Then, we got a paper where we had to write about the kind of action we would be taking and what kind of support we would need. First we got the sheet which gave us the idea of taking action.

Central idea: People's action lead to seeking solutions and achieve sustainability.

  • Reasons of depletion of organism.
  • Factors that influences/affect the sustainability.
  • Peoples responsibility towards conserving wildlife.

CAS

On Tuesday, students of Grade 10th came to take a session on Community Action Service. CAS is basically voluntary work, to give back to the community and in order to help people have a better life. It gives them a platform and opportunity in the global community. They have done this out of generosity and not for themselves. It is so that they can dwell social skills and learn to meet and interact with different people. They talked about all the different actions they had taken, which would help us in our Exhibition. They put up awareness  awareness to prevent smoking. Went to KGBV - Kasturba Gandhi Bal Vidyalaya. A few of the girls visited this school to educate children and teach them good manners. They also organised a Reading Club, which took them 7-8 months. This included Level Identification, Fund Raisers, Buying Books, Donations and Dividing Levels. Here, a group of them taught English.
Caring Hands
Where they took care of dogs and other animals.
I feel that the self-motivation because of the satisfaction and by understanding different perspectives and perceptions. It is important not to expect a lot because you may not get it.
They also talked about fundraising and how its an achievement. You can do interesting stuff with it. For charities you mustn't give cash so that you can avoid misuse. It's always better to give something that people need, the required materials. And giving charities should be done only after research and to an authorised organisation.
CAS is compulsory in the International Baccalaureate to get your Diploma Certificate. It does always have a good outcome. The teachers and advisors support students and give them ideas.
It has a great learning outcome too. These underprivileged children never crib and are always satisfied with what they have in their small world.
The students would like to keep up the persistence and not stop serving. After all, every small step can make a big difference!  :)
Next, we got into groups and made up an organisation, keeping in mimd the purpose, funding, etc. Our's was CAW - Children's Awareness for Wildlife, where we teach people to love animals and try to stop poaching.
It was truly one of the best, most interactive session we've ever had!

A taste of action

Today we were going to go to a government school. I was very excited and even scared. After lunch we started to move to the bus. It took 20 minutes to reach. At last we reached there. I was many cute and smart children. We started with Grade 5. It was hard to explain because of the language. Our goal was that they understand us and use it in real life. Our plan was that Me and Farhan were going to show a demo on how to use First Aid Kit. Iliyan C, Iliyan L and Aman took a video of washing hands properly. Vignesh said them about everyone. We showed them videos in Ipad. We also got First Aid Kit for that school. They were very smart, when we said them few questions they gave answers quickly. They are very talented students. Even Grade 4 students understood us and gave answers smartly. They enjoyed a lot and were very happy. Happiness inn their face gave us the satisfaction. In the end of we all gave teachers of that school the First Aid Kit. This was really good and awesome trip. I loved being with them.

Wildlife Coservation

Wildlife conservation is the practice of protecting endangered plant and animal species and their habitats. Among the goals of wildlife conservation are to ensure that nature will be around for future generations to enjoy and to recognize the importance of wildlife and wilderness lands to humans. Many nations have government agencies dedicated to wildlife conservation, which help to implement policies designed to protect wildlife. Numerous independent nonprofit organizations also promote various wildlife conservation causes.

Wildlife conservation has become an increasingly important practice due to the negative effects of human activity on wildlife. The science of extinction is called Dirology. An endangered species is defined as a population of a living being that is at the danger of becoming extinct because of several reasons.

Organization which helps Animals and trees:

    Wildlife as Public Trust Resources.
    Elimination of Markets for Game.
    Allocation of Wildlife by Law
Wildlife Should Only be Killed for a Legitimate Purpose
Wildlife is Considered an International Resource
Science is the Proper Tool for Discharge of Wildlife Policy
    Democracy of Huntin.

    Why is this happening?
Climate change: Global warming is making hot days hotter, rainfall and flooding heavier, hurricanes stronger and droughts more severe. This intensification of weather and climate extremes will be the most visible impact of global warming in our everyday lives. It is also causing dangerous changes to the landscape of our world, adding stress to wildlife species and their habitat. Since many types of plants and animals have specific habitat requirements, climate change could cause disastrous loss of wildlife species. A slight drop or rise in average rainfall will translate into large seasonal changes.Hibernating mammals, reptiles, amphibians and insects are harmed and disturbed. Plants and wildlife are sensitive to moisture change so, they will be harmed by any change in moisture level. Natural phenomena like floods, earthquakes, volcanoes, lightning, forest fires.

Unregulated Hunting and poaching: Unregulated hunting and poaching causes a major threat to wildlife. Along with this, mismanagement of forest department and forest guards triggers this problem.

Pollution: Pollutants released into the environment are ingested by a wide variety of organisms.Pesticides and toxic chemical being widely used, making the environment toxic to certain plants, insects, and rodents.

Perhaps the largest threat is the extreme growing indifference of the public to wildlife, conservation and environmental issues in general. Over-exploitation of resources, i.e., exploitation of wild populations for food has resulted in population crashes (over-fishing and over-grazing for example).

Over exploitation is the over use of wildlife and plant species by people for food, clothing, pets, medicine, sport and many other purposes. People have always depended on wildlife and plants for food, clothing, medicine, shelter and many other needs. But today we are taking more than the natural world can supply. The danger is that if we take too many individuals of a species from their natural environment, the species may no longer be able to survive. The loss of one species can affect many other species in an ecosystem. The hunting, trapping, collecting and fishing of wildlife at unsustainable levels is not something new. The passenger pigeon was hunted to extinction early in the last century, and over-hunting nearly caused the extinction of the American bison and several species of whales.

    Logos and slogans

On 20th of February 2014 we started unpacking the theme individually and wrote down the key words from the description of the theme 'Sharing the planet'. After that, we talked to our partners and discussed about the issues related to the theme. Me and Aman wrote down many issues such as human rights, global warming, economic development, terrorism, deforestation and many more. Next, we kept  them in three groups: I strongly believe, I wonder, and it's good to know. After that, we had to make a logo on sharing the planet for our handbooks and T-shirts. First, Ms.Isha came and explained us about our task and cleared all our doubts. It was like the logos we made for the 'Media' unit. She also told us to make it simple, to use a few colours and it should express our thoughts and ideas about the topic. I have made a logo which was a hand and in each finger there were different things like: Mammals, birds, trees, humans and fishes. Then in the middle of the palm were all the creatures living together. I also made a slogan saying 'Be together, learn together and have fun together. It was great fun making the logos! This was very interesting and wonderful. Maybe my logo can be on the handbooks and T- shirts.

    PYP exhibition

On 24th of January we stared with our Exhibition. We thought that every Friday we will do our Exhibition. We stared with unpacking our theme which is Sharing the planet. We found out the overview of the theme. Next we wrote down theme's overview. After that we were suppose to write"Why we need to share the planet?" in a padlet. In padlet we wrote about about why we share the planet. Then our ma'am said us to choose anyone overview in which we will make unit on. Then we took all the overviews and make said which topic comes under each overviews. Like:inquiry into rights and responsibilities in the struggle to share finite resources with other people and with other living things, under this comes about human rights and wildlife, pollution, etc. I am very close to nature so I took wildlife. I took it us my global issue and as my unit. Then we discussed whoever wants wildlife will go in it and their will be 6 group in each group different topics. This was a good start.
